Editors-in-charge are crucial for the smooth running of the Journal of Quantum Science (JQuant): they select expert reviewers, guaranteeing the highest quality standards and pursuing timely editorial processing of contributions. Indeed, the journal relies heavily on the editor's scientific qualifications, competence, promptness and commitment for quality and efficiency. Editorial oversight and peer review is handled anonymously.
Manuscripts are automatically assigned to the most appropriate editor-in-charge. The editor's workload is taken into account in the distribution of the assignments and overload is avoided insofar as possible.
As soon as a submission is assigned to an editor-in-charge, they receive an email notification asking them to log in to the JQuant website to manage it. The Editorial Office will soon follow-up to provide the necessary information and assistance. Editors-in-charge are notified by email about all important events and of all messages addressed to them. Emails invite editors to access the manuscript page and see the details and/or take action.
Editors-in-charge are expected to carry out their tasks according to the Journal Editorial Policy and Ethical Policy.

Guidelines for payment
In the spirit that scientists’ work must be compensated, JQuant has established a token fee to be paid to both editors and reviewers for their work. This practice sets JQuant apart in the academic publishing landscape.
When is the payment made?
Payments are normally made once a year, after the editor has made their final decision (accept, reject or not suitable). For final decisions made in 2026, editors-in-charge will be sent an email in 2027 with full instructions to receive their payment.
What do Editors need to do?
To qualify for payment editors are expected both to bear in mind the high quality standards set by the journal and to use in full the potential of the web system, taking all the steps required by the automatic editorial procedure for editorial work. Moreover, editors are requested to meet the deadlines or inform the editorial office if a postponement cannot be avoided.
These steps are necessary because editor payments are calculated through the editorial system. If the required procedure is not followed, we may not be able to pay the editor fee.
Donations
It is also possible to opt for a donation of the amount due. Donations support initiatives, products and provide financial help for the benefit of the scientific community, as described here: https://jquant.sissa.it/site/donations/
Payments affected by sanctions
If payments to editor cannot be made because their country of residence or bank account is subject to sanctions imposed under Italian or European regulations, the amount due will be set aside and paid when the applicable restrictions are lifted.
