About JQuant

Scope and aim

The Journal of Quantum Science (JQuant) is a new diamond open-access scientific journal owned by SISSA and developed as a non-profit initiative, dedicated to publishing high-quality theoretical research at the intersection of quantum information and fundamental physics.

JQuant prioritizes work that lies at the cross-section of quantum information with high-energy physics, statistical mechanics / condensed matter theory and focuses on research areas including quantum information theory, quantum computation and simulation, quantum algorithms and quantum machine learning, communication, networks and hybrid systems, materials, sensing and metrology.

The journal's scope is defined by its list of keywords. It will be periodically reviewed and updated to reflect developments in the field.

In line with its guiding principle “a journal by scientists for scientists”, JQuant is governed by the research community. Editorial decisions and the strategic direction of the journal are guided by active researchers. An Advisory Board defines and continuously refines the journal’s intellectual scope, while SISSA Medialab provides professional support for the peer-review and publication process.

The journal is committed to a sustainable model of open science that prioritizes accessibility and community control.

Editorial policy

The journal' s main aim is to provide fast and efficient online publication tools to the scientific community, while keeping that community in charge of every aspect of the peer-review and publication process, in order to ensure the highest quality standards.

The criteria for acceptance are scientific quality, originality and relevance. Manuscripts should be written in standard, comprehensible English. Length should be appropriate to the information presented.

Editors-in-charge are selected by choosing the best match of the manuscript's keywords with the areas of expertise of the available editors, taking their workload into account. Editors take full responsibility for submissions, either reviewing manuscripts themselves or sending them to as many referees as may be necessary. In all cases, they are asked to apply a strict quality filter in selecting contributions for publication.

Access, copyright and licence

JQuant is a diamond Open-Access journal, charging no fees to either authors or readers and fully funded by supporting institutions acknowledged on the Journal home page.

Authors retain the copyright of their work. To improve its open access characteristics, JQuant has adopted a Creative Commons licensing policy, giving the community the opportunity to freely distribute published contributions under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.

Moreover, authors retain the right to release their Version of Record (VoR) via institutional and/or subject repositories in addition to arXiv.org under the same licence, starting from 1 week after publication in JQuant. In this case, the file name must be the same as the one in JQuant and the following template must be used:

Version of Record. Originally published in JQuant – Journal of Quantum Science, [full citation as written in the "how to cite" on the manuscript's landing page], © [Year] The Author(s), licensed under CC BY 4.0. Available at: [DOI].

The Journal's Open Access and Copyright terms are available on https://jquant.sissa.it/site/OA-Copyright/.

JQuant software system

The JQuant website is based on Janeway, an open-source software integrated with custom code licensed under the AGPL. Therefore anyone is free to use and modify the software, as long as the changes remain similarly open.

The platform supports the entire editorial workflow, from submission and peer review through production, to publication. Developers at SISSA Medialab work closely with the Janeway community to ensure continuous development aligned with users’ needs and the evolving publishing landscape, while maintaining reliability and scalability.
