General
Authors are invited to consult the  Journal of Quantum Science (JQuant) Scope and Aim webpage, the journal’s Editorial Policy and Ethical Policy before preparing or submitting a manuscript to ensure that their work aligns with the journal’s ethical and publication standards and take full responsability for the material they submit.
All authors need to be registered to the system before submission and are requested to make sure that their personal profile page includes their affiliation, country and ORCID ID. Click here to read basic information about using the JQuant system.
JQuant welcomes submissions of research papers all year round. Suitable submissions will be subject to a single-anonymous review process and, if accepted for publication, will be typeset and published as and when they are ready.
All manuscripts submitted to JQuant must be previously posted to arXiv with a non-exclusive licence. The arXiv IDÂ will be required during the submission process.
Submissions may be subject to manual and automatic routine checks.
Manuscript preparation and submission
Â
Please read the guidelines carefully before preparing your manuscript for JQuant and starting a new submission.
The submission link is available on the home page. Submission requires registration and login. The step-by-step submission procedure guides authors through the process. Partial submissions can be saved and completed at a later time.
Manuscripts should be submitted in their final form. No file replacements are allowed after the submission, if the wrong file has been uploaded the author should withdraw and resubmit the manuscript.
The person making the submission (corresponding author) must be one of the authors.
Submission to JQuant implies that:
- the author has obtained an arXiv id, the work described has not been published before (except in form of non-peer-reviewed material such as preprints, theses, lectures, reports, etc. publicly posted on institutional or community repositories such as university and arXiv, and not subject to any copyright protection);
- the submitted version is the same as the arXiv version;
- it is not under consideration for publication, and will not be published, in any other refereed publication;
- its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as - tacitly or explicitly - by the responsible authorities at the institution where the work was carried out;
- the author warrants that their contribution is original and that they have full power to make this grant;
The author, by accepting the terms and conditions, signs for and accepts responsibility for releasing this material on behalf of any and all co-authors.
Â
Arxiv ID
You will need to provide your manuscript's arXiv id. ArXiv is a free distribution service and an open-access archive for nearly 2.4 million scholarly articles in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, statistics, electrical engineering and systems science, and economics.
Keywords
Authors are requested to characterise their work with a number of keywords selected from the JQuant keyword list. Please indicate these keywords after the abstract. The selection of keywords is crucial because they will be used by the system to assign manuscripts to the most suitable member of the Editorial Board. Requests for changing keywords after the submission has been completed will not be accepted.
Electronic Supplementary Material (ESM)
Particularly large tables and figures or other Electronic Supplementary Material (e.g. videos, Mathematica notebooks, data tables, code listings) can be submitted as attachments to a manuscript.
To accommodate user downloads, please keep in mind that the file-size affects the download time.
Any supplementary material attached will be available to reviewers and, in case of acceptance, will not be typeset or transformed in any way. To ensure that editors-in-charge, reviewers and readers may be able to view the files attached, authors are kindly requested to prepare them using standard formats.
If you wish to include material that has already been published elsewhere, please obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) before incorporating it in your manuscript and make sure you fulfill any specific requirement of the license under which this material has been published.
Please note that we suggest to host very large ESM (over 50Mb) at some external services with a permament identifier (e.g. Zenodo, gitLab/gitHub repository) with public access.
Administrative files
Files intended for administrative purposes only, for example special copyright agreements or legal documents, should be submitted as Administrative files and will be received only by the editorial office. Please do not use this function to upload scientific material for the review or publication.
Data files and computer codes
Compliant with Open Science's best practices, JQuant requires authors to make code and data available as openly as possible by storing them in suitable repositories and providing DOIs as much as possible.
Use of AI
In submitting their work authors should be aware of the possible shortcomings of AI generated material. The journal's policy on AI use is guided by the principles of ethical use, transparency and accountability, inclusivity and diversity, fairness and intellectual property protection. Aside from the use of basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc., authors should report the use of artificial intelligence, language models, machine learning, or similar technologies to create content or assist with writing or editing of manuscripts in the Acknowledgment section or the Methods section if this is part of formal research design or methods, including a description of the content that was created or edited and the name of the language model or tool, version and extension numbers, and manufacturer.Â
Generative AI technologies cannot be considered as authors and their use and material created or edited through them, whether written or visual, is the authors’ responsibility. Authors are responsible for checking the accuracy of the material produced/edited through generative AI tools and that such material is free from plagiarism.
Revisions
Revised versions can be submitted only if requested by the editor-in-charge. Contributions must therefore be submitted originally in their final form.
Authors who have been asked to revise their manuscripts must attend to the requested modifications and provide a new version within the specified deadline. Extensions may be agreed upon by contacting the editor-in-charge and explaining the reasons for your request of a new deadline.
Revised manuscripts must be uploaded from the manuscript page by clicking "submit revision". Authors who object an editor’s request for revision can confirm the previous version to be reconsidered for publication. A cover letter must be included in both cases describing in details the revisions made or providing the reasons why revisions have not been made. By default, cover letters are received by the editor-in-charge and the reviewer(s). Confidential communications for the editor-in-charge should be sent by using the “write a message” button.
Â
"Reject" and "Not Suitable" decisions
Contributions are considered, processed and reviewed as fairly as possible. Authors of contributions that have been rejected may appeal for reconsideration and reply to the editor report. Appeals must be scientifically justified and not polemic. Please send your rebuttal letters by connecting to the manuscript page and writing a message addressed to the JQuant editorial office, who will let you know whether there are sufficient grounds to open the procedure of appeal.
Manuscripts declared "not suitable" for JQuant have not been judged on their scientific value. This decision indicates only that their subject, emphasis and results do not lie within the lines of JQuant and might be more appropriate for other journals. The decision reflects the current state of the field.
Withdrawals and post-publication corrections
Authors may withdraw their contributions at any time during the review process, by clicking on the appropriate button on the manuscript webpage. As a matter of publication ethics, withdrawal is necessary before the manuscript is eventually submitted to another journal.
Errors and misconduct: If authors discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work, it is their responsibility to promptly notify the journal. Corrections or retractions will be issued promptly with proper acknowledgment of the nature of the error and the reasons for the correction.
Misconduct investigations:Â JQuant takes allegations of research misconduct seriously. In cases of suspected misconduct, the journal will follow established guidelines and procedures following the recommendations by COPE and other international research integrity hubs to investigate and address the issue.
Proofreading and publication
After manuscripts are accepted and typeset, authors will be notified with the necessary instructions and be able to:
- proofread manuscripts for mistakes or minor changes (e.g. typos, small sentence rewording, etc.);
- reply to any typesetter’s query;
- approve the document for publication , if there are no queries.
Adding and removing authors is not allowed. Modifying reference lists or changing large chunks of text must be avoided due to research integrity standards; moreover, any stylistic modification may be rejected if against the publication style or if it interferes with the publication process.Â
When a large number of modifications is requested, an archive will be made available to the author in order to implement them autonoumously. Every change will be checked and evaluated.
If requested corrections are not minor, manuscripts are sent back to the editor-in-charge for their approval. If they reckon that changes affect the content significantly, a new review process will begin.
Publication dates, manuscript IDs and DOIs will be temporary until the manuscript is actually published, so authors should refrain from using them before then.
When authors approve manuscripts for publication, or after their requested corrections have been implemented, manuscripts are ready and will be published as soon as possible.
Â
Communications
All communications regarding manuscripts must always be sent by clicking "Write a message" in the "Actions" panel of the manuscript page. Please refrain from using normal e-mails because messages sent through the system will be attended more quickly and efficiently. This will also ensure that the correspondence is included in the manuscript's timeline and accessible from its "Message and notes" page.
Although the identity of editors-in-charge is not revealed, authors can communicate with them at all times by selecting the appropriate recipient from the "Write a message" page.
